Liz Caskey
Liz Caskey, born January 29, 1977 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is an American food & wine journalist and entrepreneur based in Santiago, Chile. Liz graduated Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA with a degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies. After graduating, she took a position in New York City as an Investment Banking analyst for UBS Warburg in Latin American Corporate Finance. Having spent a year in Chile in college in addition to extended stays in other parts of Latin America, she accepted the chance to relocate permanently to Santiago, Chile in January 2001 with a small corporate finance advisory firm as a financial analyst. However, wanting more out of life, and realizing investment banking was not her career "aura", Liz decided to combine her passion and knowledge of food (at that time a serious hobby) with her business savvy in Chile. In 2001, she launched her first business, Liz Caskey, Inc., which showcased her culinary talent and creativity in chic catered events. In early 2002, she debuted her signature product, a unique half-day Culinary Tour in Santiago Centro which has, to date, been profiled in the top international press like National Geographic Traveler. The success of the original culinary tour oriented the company towards its present niche: the tourism, gastronomy, and wine sectors. The company has grown to offer other food & wine tours, from full day to weeklong excursions in Chile and Argentina (for more information: www.lizcaskey.com). In March 2004, now smitten with wine, Liz began her studies towards earning a professional sommelier diploma with the Asociación de Sommeliers de Chile, completing Level I of the three consecutive courses. The studies both deepened her knowledge of wine and beverages and leverage its natural affinity with food. At the same time, Liz had already began to write a food-related pages for different Chilean publications, such as Lat 33, developing her own voice within the emerging gastronomy and wine industry in Chile. At present, Liz writes regular food & wine columns for Chilean media such Mujer Magazine (in La Tercera Sunday Newspaper) and Placeres Magazine, in addition to collaborating on independent articles for magazines like: Lan Airlines "IN", Vitivinicultura, Paula Cocina, La Tercera "Viajes", among others. In July 2005, Liz began her "on screen" cooking career, as a TV chef on the Chilean morning show, Buenos Días a Todos (TVN Channel 7). Her cooking segment takes on a laid back and relaxed approach to cooking, while transmitting her passion and enthusiasm and focusing on fresh, market cooking, making the most of Chile's native and seasonal produce and ingredients.
